Malcorra signs cooperation agreement with the EU in Brussels.

            Today in Brussels, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra signed a cooperation agreement with the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, in order to facilitate the coordinated implementation of joint cooperation activities and combine efforts, resources, skills and knowledge to tackle poverty and its consequences, as well as to promote sustainable development.

“We need Argentina to grow and generate real sustainable employment. This can only be achieved at two levels: trade and investment. We have to create a stronger infrastructure for Argentina to be more competitive at the global level,” stated Malcorra, who is a member of the Argentine delegation led by President Macri.

The Argentine Foreign Minister offered a press conference with her counterpart for the European Union, Federica Mogherini, at which she affirmed: “We estimate infrastructure investments for USD 100 billion will be needed over the next 4 years. This is something we cannot achieve alone. We need reliable partners who believe in Argentina in the long term, and with whom we can build a partnership that is mutually satisfactory.”

Mogherini welcomed the measures adopted by the President and his Cabinet in order to put an end to trade barriers: “We are ready to contribute to the development of new investments in the country. Today we decided that we will send a trade promotion delegation from the EU to Argentina in the second half of this year, and that we will open new cooperation channels.”

With respect to the refugee crisis, Mogherini stated: “We have decided to establish a EU-Argentina working group in order to find a way for the EU to help Argentina with its efforts to continue receiving refugees.”
