Faurie at Foreign Ministers’ meeting convened by International Organization of la Francophonie

Today, Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie participated in the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting entitled “Security and Development in a Supportive Francophone Environment”, convened by the International Organization of La Francophonie and held in New York within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly.

“The Argentine Republic shares multiple values with Francophonie members,” the Foreign Minister stated during his address, highlighting “solidarity and cooperation at the service of sustainable development, as well as respect for cultural and linguistic diversity and the promotion thereof.”

The goal of the Ministers’ Meeting is to “continue and strengthen, on the basis of the Declaration and resolutions adopted at the Antananarivo Summit held in Madagascar, exchanges and reflections intended to foster consultations not only within the francophone community but also outside it, as well as to promote more efficient operational cooperation as part of a process of active solidarity.”

“Current and historical bonds with francophone nations, the development of French as a language within our territory and the values that the Argentine Republic shares with the International Organization of La Francophonie are what motivated us to become part of this community of over 270 million people from all five continents,” Faurie stated.

Lastly, the Argentine Foreign Minister mentioned that “the Argentine Republic advocates full respect for multilingualism and the need for equality in the use of official languages in International Organizations, and champions due respect for the Spanish language within that context.”
