Argentina assumed presidency pro tempore of UNASUR

The Argentine Republic has assumed the Presidency Pro Tempore of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR in Spanish) to be held until April 17, 2018.

Argentina assumes such responsibility with the aim of elaborating concrete plans that bring us closer to the regional integration ideals on which the creation of UNASUR was based.  In this regard, actions and projects that promote the development of the region in pursuit of improving the everyday life of South Americans and benefitting our peoples will be encouraged.

Some activities worth noting include activities in the areas of infrastructure, natural disaster and risk management, defense, food security and strengthening of South-South cooperation.

The first Special Meeting of UNASUR Foreign Ministers is scheduled to take place in mid-May at the organization’s headquarters in Mitad del Mundo City, Ecuador, to jointly analyze the work agenda for this period.
