Liechtenstein, officially the Principality of Liechtenstein is a small landlocked country in the Upper Rhine Valley between Austria in the east and Switzerland in the west.

From north to south, the country is about 24 km (15 mi) long, an area of 160 km² (61.8 sq mi) making the country the sixth-smallest independent nation in the world.

Today Liechtenstein has a population of 37,600 people (in 2015), and the national capital is Vaduz. The spoken language is German.

The United Nations ranks Liechtenstein 2015 as the country with the highest GDP per capita, ahead of Monaco and Luxembourg.
