The Argentine Government deeply regrets the United States’ decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Not only does this decision have an impact on the effectiveness of the Agreement as an instrument to respond to the global threat of climate change, but also on the solidarity and cooperation spirit shown by the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during the negotiations that led to the adoption and subsequent almost global ratification of the Paris Agreement.

Argentina maintains its firm commitment to the Paris Agreement and will continue participating actively with the other States Parties in the preparatory process for the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the Convention, with a view to achieving concrete progress in the application of the Paris Agreement.

Climate change is an extremely serious and far-reaching problem with an economic and social impact that requires urgent and joint action by civil society and national governments. The Argentine Government therefore reaffirms its will to continue working on the implementation of the nationally determined contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase Argentina’s capacity for adaptation to climate change, within the framework of the National Committee for Climate Change.
