Statements by Foreign Minister Malcorra on private meeting between President Mauricio Macri and Pope Francis

Speaking from Rome, Argentine Foreign Minister Malcorra explained: “It was a private meeting; really fruitful, very cordial and interactive. They had a good and productive conversation about concrete topics. President Macri showed Pope Francis the Government’s infrastructure plans and they talked about the multiple social plans that have been launched. In short, it was a demonstration of the work that is being undertaken in a very practical manner, which really caught Pope Francis’ attention.”

            In an interview with Radio Del Plata, Malcorra stated: “Another topic that deeply interested the Holy Father was the launch of plans involving various railway branches. The Pope said that he knew many towns in the provinces that had fallen behind due to the lack of railways, which led to a discussion about how these plans could create jobs and give those towns new life. It was a really productive and concrete talk with a person that works on a global scale but also knows Argentina very well and holds our country close to his heart”.
