Foreign Minister Faurie met with his Moroccan counterpart

Within the framework of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie met with his counterpart from the Kingdom of Morocco, Nasser Bourita, with whom he agreed on the potential of bilateral relations for expanding political and economic ties.

The Ministers agreed to work on three main issues, two of which are: politics, so as to increase dialogue between the two Governments, and the economy, for the private sectors of the two countries to be in contact and thus develop bonds. The aim is to increase mutual exports, while establishing Argentina as a gateway into Latin America for Moroccan exports and Morocco as a gateway into Africa for Argentine exports. The third main issue refers to cultural exchange, with the aim of establishing academic exchanges for young people of one country to travel to the other country while studying.

Faurie and his counterpart discussed the progress made with the Mercosur – Morocco exploratory dialogue in the context of the reinsertion of Mercosur into the world, and analyzed the expectations for the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference, to be held in Buenos Aires (December 2017).

They agreed to continue addressing this topic at the preparatory meeting to be held during the following days in Marrakech. Faurie expressed to his counterpart that Argentina hopes for positive results in December and, to achieve so, it hopes to count on Marrakech’s participation.

The Argentine Foreign Minister thanked Nasser Bourita for Marrakech’s support for Argentina in the sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands, which was expressed at the ASA Summits, and for Marrakech’s valuable support for resuming bilateral negotiations with the United Kingdom, which was expressed at the ASPA Summits and at the G-77 plus China.
