“We want the Argentine Foreign Ministry to serve as an effective bridge between the provinces and other countries, as part of our smart insertion into the world. We are the National Foreign Service, we serve the Argentine people that you represent here today,” stated Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, while chairing the Meeting ‘Argentine Foreign Ministry: a Federal Agenda’, held today at the Palacio San Martín and attended by provincial government representatives in charge of institutional and/or international relations.

Joined by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Daniel Raimondi, the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser, and the top authorities of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Faurie highlighted:  “Use the long arm of the Argentine Foreign Ministry abroad: we have 150 representations staffed by competent, trained and experienced officials who can tell you how to approach an initiative and assess whether a project –exports, participation in fairs, etc.- can prosper.”

“Our job is to be able to tell you where opportunities exist for Argentine products. Use our operating capacity to determine the types of products that can reach those markets, the obstacles they may encounter and the technical and phytosanitary measures that apply; in that way, we can join in the efforts of the provinces in order to prepare for different scenarios,” he added.

Faurie underscored the need to especially support SMEs, “which account for 75% of our productive structure and constitute a majority in the provinces,” and stressed that “the Undersecretariat for Institutional Relations of the Foreign Ministry, headed by Tomás Kroyer, is for the provinces the entry point into our Ministry.”

“The goal is to figure out how to progressively boost Argentine exports, in a way that will lead to more jobs, investment, equipment and technology, in other words, to a better quality of life for the Argentine population. In order to achieve this goal, we must be more productive, more competitive and open more markets,” he stated.

Towards the end of the meeting, the head of Argentine diplomacy highlighted the cooperation department of the Foreign Ministry as a key aspect of the relationship between the provinces and the world, and made special mention of the importance and efficacy of inter-university agreements.

Following the Foreign Minister’s opening address, the meeting included presentations by experts from the Foreign Ministry and from the Argentine Agency of Investment and International Trade on the promotion of export supply, Argentina’s main ongoing bilateral and multilateral economic negotiations, the guidelines and instruments of decentralized cooperation, and opportunities and impact on the Provinces of the main programmes and agendas developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.

During the meeting, there was a lively exchange among attendees, who expressed their satisfaction at the development of this type of initiatives. The Undersecretary for Institutional Affairs of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Tomás Kroyer, was in charge of closing the meeting.
