Faurie: “An isolated country can never achieve development”

“We are convinced that an isolated country can never achieve development,” stated Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie this morning as he opened the “Exports” Day event at the Four Seasons Hotel, which was organized by the Argentine Chamber of Exporters (CERA).

Under the slogan “Exports: from transition to growth”, representatives of the Argentine exporter sector and national officials gathered today at the hotel in Buenos Aires.

Faurie stated that “our country has great potential, so our duty now is to consolidate an extremely strong exporter profile that affords us visibility in the world.”

“At the moment, the economic and trade agenda is the most important aspect of foreign policy,” the Foreign Minister stated and underscored the will to “strengthen trade intelligence work, so as to allocate resources to the facilitation of concrete transactions and the search for real opportunities.”

During the opening speech, the Foreign Minister, who was joined by the President of CERA, Enrique Mantilla, and by the Minister of Agri-Industry, Ricardo Buryaile, emphasized the need to “work intensively on five issues: coordinating the country’s position, generating new export niches, strengthening ties between buyers and distributors, positioning Argentina’s country brand, and consolidating Argentine products abroad.”

Faurie explained that “we have normalized our foreign relations, by setting out to build trust, and this has led to a full agenda of trade negotiations, which was a long-held demand of the Argentine exporter sector” and he also mentioned the importance of “Asia, the Middle East and Africa as key markets to continue exploring, in addition to traditional markets like Europe and the United States.”

“Change is under way and it is irreversible,” Faurie stated and concluded: “Argentine people are beginning to cast aside their doubts. And last Sunday we started to dispel doubts categorically, by making it very clear that there is no returning to the past.”
