Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori held First Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting with the United Arab Emirates

On 13 November, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Foradori met in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, with the Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Emirati Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Al Jarman, in order to hold the First Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting between both countries. Both delegations expressed their satisfaction with the excellent status of bilateral relations, which is evidenced by this First Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting and the recent official visit to the United Arab Emirates made by Argentine Vice President Gabriela Michetti between 1 and 4 November. The delegations agreed to continue strengthening their relations and promoting all investment opportunities, especially in the field of agriculture and ports. Furthermore, they stressed the importance of establishing direct flights between the Emirates and Argentina, which would facilitate business and tourist travel. They also discussed the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Space Activities between both countries. Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori highlighted the participation by the United Arab Emirates in the 4th ASPA (South American-Arab Countries) Summit held in Riyadh in 2015, and also referred to the significance of the declarations issued within the framework of ASPA in support of the resumption of negotiations between the Argentine Government and the Government of the United Kingdom on the Question of the Malvinas Islands, with a view to finding a peaceful and definitive solution in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions. The delegations also addressed the situation in the Middle East, including the conflicts in Syria and Yemen, and the serious humanitarian crisis caused by them. In this regard, the delegations highlighted the contributions made by Argentina in the context of the regional humanitarian crisis through the White Helmets Commission and the “Syria Programme” to facilitate humanitarian visas. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Sports was signed and the instruments ratifying the Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters —signed in 2013— were exchanged.
