Argentina – Chile: Meeting of the Permanent Security Committee

Today, at the Palacio San Martín, the 28th Meeting of the Argentina-Chile Permanent Security Committee (COMPERSEG) was held.

The meeting was chaired by the Argentine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Carlos Foradori, and the Secretary of Strategy and Military Affairs of the Argentine Ministry of Defence, Ángel Tello, with Chile being represented by its Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Edgardo Riveros, and its Deputy Defence Minister, Marcos Robledo.

The work agenda included bilateral and multilateral aspects of the relationship; joint projects on science, technology and production for Defence; Antarctic cooperation; implementation of gender policies in the field of Defence; joint exercises; and the joint “Cruz del Sur” Peace force.

Among the most important challenges, our countries’ participation in the peace process in Colombia was analyzed.

At the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori stressed that permanent coordination with Chile makes it possible to move towards a common view on the existing challenges in the international arena, as well as the opportunities and, above all, the potential for joint responses by Argentina and Chile.

COMPERSEG is a space for bilateral dialogue at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers and Deputy Defence Ministers, which was created in 1995 to coordinate aspects of both countries’ foreign and defence policy, with a view to consolidating friendship and integration between Argentina and Chile.
