Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie met today with the French candidate for the post of Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Audrey Azoulay.

Ms Azoulay served as Culture Adviser to former President François Hollande and then as Minister of Culture and Communication of France.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry, together with the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Culture, is analyzing the candidates of several countries for the post of Director-General of UNESCO so as to determine which candidate will have Argentina’s support next November.

Within the framework of this process, the highest authorities of the Argentine Foreign Ministry have also received the Egyptian candidate, Moushira Khattab, the Lebanese candidate, Vera El Khoury, and the Qatari candidate, Hamad Al-Kawari.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNSECO) was created in 1945 to strengthen the ties between nations and societies so as to guarantee universal access to education, foster intercultural understanding through the protection of heritage and the support of cultural diversity, and promote progress and scientific cooperation among countries.
