Within the framework of the “Business Reflection Forum on the EU-Mercosur Agreement” under Argentina’s Presidency Pro Tempore of Mercosur, the Secretary for International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry, Horacio Reyser, stated that Argentina is strengthening its activities in terms of bloc trade agreements and ensured that our country’s participation will be enhanced by using Mercosur as a platform.

During the event, to be held until June 2 at the Palacio San Martín, Reyser focused on confidence building and provided reassurance as he listed the “buffers” that are to be developed for each of the potential contingencies that may arise, such as the tariff removal staging categories, the rules of origin, and the difference in development between Mercosur and the EU.

He underscored the importance of being predictable throughout time to generate long-term investment and operation conditions and of listening to all sectors, including businesspeople and unions, among others. Furthermore, he insisted on the key importance of dialogue between the blocs, their governments and the public and private sectors.

Trusting that this round will be the conclusion stage of the agreement, he remarked: “The uncertainties are over. This agreement is a tool that affords order and predictability throughout time. It is an integration tool. It is a qualitative leap that generates convergence of values for an 800 million people market.”
