Official appointment of Mauricio Wajnrot at the Argentine Foreign Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship announces the official appointment of Mauricio Wajnrot as Special Representative for Cultural Affairs of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, in charge of the General Directorate for Cultural Affairs.

Mauricio Wajnrot (whose stage surname is Wainrot) is a renowned Argentine choreographer, born in Buenos Aires, who has excelled during the last three decades as Artistic Director at various national and international theatres and ballet companies in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

His most distinguished participations include the Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín (Buenos Aires);  the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium); Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal (Canada), the English National Ballet (England), the Staatstheater Hannover and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden (Germany); the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Florida Ballet, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Juilliard Dance Ensemble (United States); the Mexican National Ballet and the Chilean National Ballet, among many others.

Wajnrot has received numerous awards in Argentina and abroad, and has twice been finalist of the Benois de la Danse international award, which is presented at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and is considered one of the most important dance awards in the world.

His most renowned works include: Flamma Flamma, The Tempest, Medea, Carmina Burana, A Streetcar Named Desire, Messiah, The Rite of Spring, 8 Seasons, Distant Light, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, Travesías, The Song of the Earth and Ode to Joy.

Furthermore, he has served as juror in dance competitions in Madrid, New York and Moscow. In 2008, Wajnrot was made Knight of the Order of Leopold I by the King of Belgium for his artistic contribution to the world of dance.
