MERCOSUR-European Union negotiations continue

From 30 May to 2 June, the Intersessional Meeting of MERCOSUR-European Union negotiations will be held at the Palacio San Martín, under Argentina’s Presidency Pro Tempore of MERCOSUR.

During the last round of negotiations, held this March, considerable progress was made on the negotiation of the Association Agreement between the two regional blocs, which is expected to be consolidated through the work done in the context of this Intersessional Meeting. It is worth noting that, as a result of the last round of negotiations, a single negotiated text has been agreed upon for each chapter of the Agreement.

On this occasion, work will be done by the teams in charge of trade in services, government procurement, intellectual property, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, dispute settlement, and trade and sustainable development.

The institutional affairs team will meet for the first time and work on defining the institutional structure of the MERCOSUR-EU Association Agreement.

In addition, Chief Negotiators will review the state of the negotiation, in the belief that its conclusion stage has begun. They will also affirm the commitment to address all pending issues of this decisive stage on the basis of adequate technical work, flexibility and the necessary political will.
