Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra was received today by her Spanish counterpart, José Manuel García-Margallo in Madrid, and highlighted the “broad [economic] agenda” between Argentina and Spain. “This is a privileged bond and we want to strengthen it. Expectations were high for our traditional relationship with Spain, which had been strained for some time, to be re-established,” she stated.

During a joint press conference, Malcorra stressed the efforts “to put Argentina back on the world scene, given that there are great opportunities for improvement.” She also confirmed that Macri would visit Spain after the new Government is established, which she expects to “happen soon.”

The Argentine Foreign Minister arrived today in Madrid and will continue her European tour with President Maurcio Macri, who will arrive tomorrow in Paris, where he will meet with François Hollande. They will then travel to Brussels and Berlin.

In turn, García-Margallo stated that “the Argentine Government knows it can count on our full support for the country’s modernization plan.”

“Argentina is a priority country for Spain”, added García-Margallo, recalling that there are more than 400,000 Spaniards residing in Argentina. He also explained that there are about 250 Spanish companies in Argentina, and that there is growing interest in setting up new companies in the country.
