Lima Group communiqué on the usurpation of the powers of Venezuela’s National Assembly

The signatory countries express their strong condemnation of the National Constituent Assembly’s decision to usurp the legislative powers of the National Assembly, which confirms the rupture of democratic and constitutional order in Venezuela.

In agreement with the Declaration adopted in Lima on 8 August 2017:

1. We reiterate non-recognition of the National Constituent Assembly and of any decisions thereof;

2. We ratify our full support for Venezuela’s National Assembly; and

3. We reaffirm our decision to intensify consultations to apply the Inter-American Democratic Charter to Venezuela.
