Joint Communiqué // 28th Meeting of the MERCOSUR-EU Bi-regional negotiations committee

Negotiations covered a wide range of instruments, including those on trade in goods, rules of origin, customs, trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, trade defence, trade in services, government procurement, intellectual property including geographical indications, trade and sustainable development, small and medium-sized enterprises, dispute settlement and institutional aspects. The Chief negotiators underscored with great satisfaction that progress has been made towards an agreement on several important subjects, in the various matters under negotiation.

At the same time, the Chief negotiators of both blocs met with civil society representatives and businesspeople and created a space for dialogue on the status of the negotiating process, the impact of the future agreement and the opportunities offered by the agreement in areas such as trade, investment, work and employment, and the environment, among others.

The two blocs undertook to move forward quickly so as to conclude the negotiations. To this end, they agreed that the next round will be held in Brasilia on 2-6 October 2017 after an intersessional meeting to be held in Brussels on 4-6 September.
