On May 30, the United States Embassy in Buenos Aires held a ceremony on the implementation of the Global Entry Program (GEP). The event was attended by officials from the United States and from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, as well as by authorities from different areas of the Argentine government who also participated in the negotiations.

On the occasion, the certification was awarded to two Argentine citizens, who became the first Argentine users of the GEP. The Argentine Republic thus became the tenth country in the world and the third one in Latin America to receive this benefit.

As announced during President Mauricio Macri’s visit to the United States last April, the Global Entry Program is a United States Customs and Border Protection program which allows citizens from a limited number of member countries to be eligible for participation, in order to be afforded differential treatment and expedited clearance upon entry into the United States, through immigration controls conducted on automated kiosks at US airports.

On that occasion, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen, highlighted the usefulness of the Program, which “will allow Argentine travellers, upon obtaining the required visa and complying with a few formalities in advance, to become beneficiaries of the program and undergo immigration controls for entry into the United States on automated kiosks, thus saving time and avoiding queues. It will also contribute to strengthening tourism, educational and business bonds between both countries.”
