“We want to plan next year’s joint celebration of the 120th anniversary of our bilateral relationship,” stated the Argentine Foreign Minister from Tokyo, alongside her Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida.

“I would like to thank Japan for its support for the WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in December this year,” added the head of Argentine diplomacy, also highlighting the importance of the meeting between Mercosur and Japan held a few days ago at the Palacio San Martín.

“President Macri is looking forward to welcoming a representative from the Imperial House to Argentina next year and, above all, the likely presence of Prime Minister Abe, given that next year our country will host the G20 Summit,” stated Malcorra.

The Japanese Foreign Minister, for his part, offered his collaboration on the G20 Summit to be held next year in Argentina, highlighted the topic proposals for the aforementioned WTO Ministerial Conference, and underscored the progress in the bilateral relationship, such as on the issue of beef. He also expressed his wish that Mercosur and the European Union reach an agreement.

The Foreign Ministers also addressed various issues pertaining to the situation in the two regions. Towards the end of the meeting, Malcorra expressed her gratitude for Japanese hospitality and underscored: “As Foreign Ministers, we are both willing to engage in an exchange that allows us to prepare ourselves so that the meeting between President Macri and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe can be fruitful in the long term.”

On the same day, Malcorra also held a meeting with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Shinichi Kitaoka.
