Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra received her counterpart from the Federative Republic of Brazil, José Serra, at the Palacio San Martín at noon today. Following a private meeting, both Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of a Bilateral Mechanism for Political Coordination. The Minister of Finance, Alfonso Prat-Gay, and the Argentine Ambassador to Brazil, Carlos Alfredo Magariños, were present at the ceremony, among other authorities.

The main objectives of the mechanism will be to maintain an exchange on the bilateral, regional and global agenda for the purpose of coordinating views, and to monitor strategic projects for bilateral integration, especially in the fields of science, technology and innovation, defence, aeronautics, energy and trade, without prejudice to other fields that the governments may consider priorities.

After the ceremony, the Foreign Ministers and their staff had a working lunch. They were joined by other government officials, including the President Pro Tempore of the Argentine Senate, Federico Pinedo.
