Argentine Foreign Ministry declassified 847 documents on Human Rights violations during the military dictatorship.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Argentine military coup, the Argentine Foreign Ministry has declassified 847 historical documents on human rights violations committed during the last dictatorship. This evidences the State’s intention to guarantee the right to the truth.

These documents cast light on repressive acts and human rights violations, provide information about the conduct of government and allow collaboration with ongoing judicial procedures.

Among the declassified documents, those that stand out are embassy cables about claims of human rights violations in Argentina, cables referring to cases submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) and the reports issued by it, news articles published in international newspapers denouncing the situation in Argentina, and cables sent to the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship by the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva which refer to reports issued by the UN Human Rights Division regarding the detention and disappearance of individuals in Argentina.
