On Thursday, July 22nd, torrential rains hit the city of Turrialba in Costa Rica.
This led to the fact that the local river overflowed its banks and flooded the city.
Local residents said they had not seen a similar situation due to the rains for at least five years.
“In a matter of seconds, a large amount of water descended from the mountain, and I could hardly leave the house with my family,” said one of them.
Rapid streams of water flooded streets, houses, cars, part of the city was left without electricity.
Several people trapped in the trap were rescued by firefighters.
According to the mayor: “The rivers have already occupied the territory of the city. The situation is quite difficult.”
The precipitation is caused by an increase in atmospheric pressure in the Caribbean Sea, which results in windy and rainy conditions, according to meteorologists.
The situation is expected to last until early Friday morning.
